In 2011 I storyboarded a short film for Si&Ad, who are a directing duo I regularly work with. Actually it was the first thing I did for them. The film’s not on release yet, but it’s been selected/awarded at several film festivals, which is pretty awesome. I can’t put all the frames up yet but here are a few that back up what’s in the trailer (on youtube here). It was filmed in Jaywick, a caravan park on the Essex coast that over the years became a full-time settlement. But the caravans weren’t designed for such prolonged use and the place has become very run-down and desolate. I love the film/town’s spaciousness, I got quite immersed in the atmosphere storyboarding it. You can see another couple of pages here.

Kurio storyboard
A storyboard for a pitch for the Kurio tablet, which is aimed at kids. You can see the rest of the storyboard here.
Anthony Nolan storyboard
Some headshots for a pitch for Anthony Nolan, the bone marrow register. On this occasion I got hold of the presentation afterwards, I’ve added a page underneath. You can see the rest here. Sign up to Anthony Nolan!
Vaseline Spray and Go storyboard
A storyboard for Si&Ad at Academy, for Vaseline Spray and Go body moisturiser. It’s nice, they wanted to show that you can use the spray and put your clothes on straight afterwards and to that end hired a dancer to dress really quickly, with no special effects. I think it’s just on US TV at the moment. They didn’t need me to storyboard the woman dressing, but instead wanted to put together a few other images for the rest of the scene. In the end I don’t think they used any of the shower shots!
business card roughs
While sorting through some stuff over the weekend I came across all the roughs I did while trying to work what picture, out of all the possible pictures in the universe, I was going to put on my business card. My starting point was that I wanted a person to be in it, and if possible an animal, and I wanted it to be quite vibrant.
One idea I had was to have the business card as one frame of a storyboard – everyone would be sent different frames and you’d have to visit my website to see the whole thing. I was using moo.com so I could have up to 50 different images on one side of the card..
..the middle column of a woman and a bird was the idea I eventually went with.
Lots of faces with different backgrounds.
I kind of liked this playing card idea using a man and a woman..
..and one of the last stages before I got to the finished product. The bird is a Cock of The Rock, a slightly comedy Andean cockerel-type creature.
Morrisons 'For Your Christmas' Storyboard
Here are a couple of pages from my storyboard for this year’s Morrisons Christmas ad, directed by Si&Ad at Academy. You can see the other pages here, and the ad’s on youtube here. It’s meant to depict the reality of Christmas, ie that it’s a bit of a stress, but worth it in the end to see your family all happy.
Be Sensible
A couple of pages from the storyboard for The Trainline ‘Be Sensible’ ad which is out at the moment. It was inspired by the scene in Airplane when everyone goes ballistic on hearing the plane is in trouble (can’t remember the reason exactly), but in this case it’s because a guy runs into the carriage announcing you can get your tickets cheaper with The Trainline. This was a 2.5 day storyboard so there are lots of frames – there are a bunch of 10 second versions as well which I’ll post at a later date.
I’ve put the full storyboard for the 30 second version up here, and the ad’s on youtube here.
Rubie’s Disney Princess storyboard
Hello.. here are a couple of pages from a storyboard for a recent pitch – I don’t think the agency won it but I was pleased with the storyboard, so here it is! It’s another one for Rubie’s costume hire, this time for Disney Princess outfits. You can see the rest of the frames here.
Spidey
I’ve been super busy with a very fun book illustration project. But with the exception of a couple more pics at a later date, I’ve finished! Literally as the sun comes out, perfect timing. I’ve just been trying out odosketch – I resolved the disaster of my owl’s body with a big posh coat, obviously.
Here’s a recent pitch storyboard for Rubie’s costume hire.
